The London International Woodworking Festival is the must do event for hand tool woodworkers

The event kicks off with a range of practical, hands-on short courses running between Monday 28th Oct and Friday 1st Nov. 2024

Our classes are delivered by some of the world’s leading experts on furniture making, tool maintenance and design presentation so you’ll be able to take your passion to the next level.

  • Illustration for Furniture Makers
    A 2 day course. 30th & 31st Oct. An ability to produce visuals of any piece of furniture is a useful skill for the amateur maker and a definite advantage to a professional. This two day intensive art course is unique, unlike traditional art courses where you might practice drawing from still life, this teaches sketching from imagination. £277.
  • Master saw sharpening & maintenance skills and build your own bad axe with Mark Harrell
    A 5 day course. 28th Oct – 1st Nov. Let’s demystify saw sharpening and master the skills required to restore your vintage saw collection with confidence, and build your own Bad Axe with Mark Harrell, founder of Bad Axe Tool Works. £1,350.
  • Dutch Tool Chest with Megan Fitzpatrick
    A 3 day course. 30th Oct – 1st Nov. This handsome and useful tool chest is a great three-day introduction to several bedrock hand-tool joinery techniques. Plus you’ll learn how to cut a fingernail moulding, raise a panel, use cut-nails, and rules for carcase construction. By the end of Day 3, you’ll be able to pop all your tools in your new chest. £890.
  • Comb-back Stick Chair with Christopher Schwarz
    A 5 day course. 28th Oct – 1st Nov. Build a comb-back stick chair using common materials and tools on hand – plus a variety of methods. Stick chairs are a vernacular form of furniture that was built by farmers or any non-professional woodworker. Stick chairs were built using the materials around the woodworker and simple tools. £1,455.

LIWF Bazaar

The festival culminates in a one day show. The show is centred around a lively bazaar staffed by representatives of leading hand-tool brands from around the world. Throughout the day visitors are welcome to attend seminars and demonstrations to further their knowledge and appreciation of the craft in one of our designated learning zones.
